Blue Hole Regional Park

Blue Hole Regional Park is a natural, spring-fed swimming hole lined with the iconic Cypress Trees located deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

“Blue Hole is such a gem” said Richard Shaver, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Wimberley. “This year, we are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the historic Blue Hole becoming a public park and it is so great that this park is admired by so many people from around the world but especially by the people that we serve right here in Wimberley”. 

Blue Hole has been a popular swimming destination since the 1920s and with an unprecedented fundraising effort, the 126-acre park was developed into a beloved community park for citizens of Wimberley and visitors from all over the globe to enjoy. The park features 4.5 miles of hike and bike trails, picnic areas, community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, an amphitheater, and the famous Blue Hole Swimming Area.

In 2005, the City of Wimberley embarked on a mission to save the Blue Hole from the threat of residential development. After an unprecedented fundraising effort, the City purchased the land for use as a community park. The City of Wimberley has since developed the 126-acre park for the enjoyment of residents, visitors, and future generations. It includes much-needed recreational facilities for our growing community and showcases a true gem in the Texas Hill Country. The park includes approximately 4.5 miles of trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, a playscape, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, an amphitheater, and the Blue Hole Swimming Area. The entire park is open to visitors within the regular operating hours; however, swimming is only allowed during the designated swimming season. The park balances the community’s needs while preserving and restoring the historic Blue Hole and surrounding ecosystems.
